TYPES OF ROCK MUSIC

PUNK ROCK: This rock genre was created in 70’s in England. The satire lyrics with political social critics were its characteristics. T- Rex, MC-5, Rolling stones, Stooges, Offspring, Buzz cocks and other bands in the late 60’s were influenced by this genre.   

HEAVY METAL: The music genre was famed for its heavy guitars, drums coordinated with bass with a strong rhythm and tremble and loud vocals. The lyrics were composed around god, hell, girls, nature, religion, freedom. Iron Maiden, Metalica, Black Sabbath and Motorhead were influenced by this genre of rock music.     

THRASH METAL: This genre of rock music has fast and heavy sound and distorted guitars, with strong presence of Hard Core. To some extent Trash Metal is the fusion of Heavy Metal and hard Core. The lyrics reflects protests against government, religion, politician and they also sometimes talked about radical sports. Corrosion, Suicidal Tendencies and Megadeth are few examples.

HARD ROCK: These bands were generally formed by three people; sounds used were fast and heavy. The lyrics reflect politics, religion and employers. These themes were also used by Punks. These bands also talk about radical sports in their lyrics and their fans of these sports are crazy about Hard Core. The popular bands of this genre are The Exploited, UK Subs, GBH and Sick of it all.

DEATH METAL: Guttural vocals and drum beats were used to give feeling of tribal rituals. This music genre is appreciated by millions of people all around the world and it attracts more followers as it is theist genre. The lyrics of these kinds of songs depict satanic and apocalyptical references. Slayer, Sepultura and Cannibal Corpse were the examples of this genre of rock music.

ROCKABILLY: This genre was mix of Rhythm & Blues, Country and Western. Rockabilly is another name, which even today, is given to the idols of the good and old Rock and Roll. It can also be said that this genre gave birth to Rock and Roll. Bill Haley, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis were most famed artists of this genre of rock music.

POP ROCK:  This genre is the most famous and most preferred rock music and highly appreciated by its fans. After 80’s pop rock bands emerged as a great success. Duran and U2 were the most successful and famed pop rock bands at that time. They started grabbing millions of peoples to their shows throughout the world in mega tours. Even today pop rock has a huge fan list.   

BLUES: Blues is also known as heart of Jazz. This genre has sad vocal and strait lyrics, mainly connected to basic problems of human life. This genre can take you from total depression to satire and joy. Important names associated with this genre were Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington

PROGRESSIVE: During 70’s rock bands decided to introduce sound effects, production and arrangement of opera and intellectual music to its compositions. This is when this genre came into picture. It was heavily influenced by Jazz. Pink Floyd, Rush and Yes were associated with this genre.

TECHNO: In the 80’s this genre came into picture. It started a real musical revolution which moved to the night houses and dancing places all over the world. Its beats electronic and amplified vocals were driving people crazy. This genre of rock music is quiet popular even today. New Order, Pet Shop Boys and Kraftwerk are associated with this genre.
